Today year 3 have been working on their mathematical explanation and reasoning skills.  We have looked at different challenges and tried to solve them in groups using facts we already know and a given criteria.  The children have worked hard together and have solved the challenges using different methods.  Year 3 were given no help in solving these challengers and would like to see if you can complete one using your own reasoning skills.

Take 5 coins 1p, 2p, 5p, 10p and 20p

Put them in a row using these clues.

  • The total of the first three coins is 27p
  • The total of the last three coins is 31p
  • The last coin is double the value of the first coin.

We hope you enjoy doing our challenge.
