Class 4 had a visit from the ‘Ministry of Chocolate.’ Carl was an expert on the history of chocolate and how it has developed over time. Did you know that people in Switzerland eat the most chocolate every year? the average person eats around 9kg each year.
Throughout the morning he explained how the Aztecs first used a cocoa bean to make a chocolate drink which was known as bitter water. Also we found out that the Aztecs had many gods who they had to keep happy. One way they did this was be sacrificing fighters who were captured by the warriors. Their hearts were ripped out and shown to the sun god to bring light to the world.
Class 4 sampled some chocolate then had the chance to make their own chocolate creation. This was a great introduction to our topic on the Aztecs and the children are really excited about finding out more information.
