We decided to investigate what affects the speed a parachute travels.  To do this we made 3 different size parachutes out of the same materials.  We always dropped the parachutes from the same height in our investigation to make sure we conducted a fair and scientific test.  Many of us were surprised to find that the smallest parachute travelled to the ground the quickest and we soon discovered that this is due to a force called air resistance.  We found that the larger parachutes trapped more air as they fell to the ground and it is the air resistance here that slows the larger parachute down.  We decided if we were to go sky diving we would all want to have a large parachute to ensure we had a slow decent and smooth landing!
