As part of our ‘Fairgrounds and Forces’ topic class 5 visited Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet in Sheffield.  We were introduced to different characters who would have worked then and some of the children took on the role of these.  We explored the different buildings, studying what life would have been like over 100 years ago.

We also explored how different pushing and pulling forces work to power the water wheels.  In the afternoon, we worked in pairs and conducted a scientific experiment, creating our own water wheels using milk bottles! We conducted a fair test to investigate what makes an effective water wheel and were quite surprised by our results.

Class 5 were really enthusiastic and found this trip to be very valuable and interesting.
