OUR CURRICULUM

At Kimberworth Community Primary School, our curriculum vision is to develop lifelong learners who have the knowledge, skills, confidence and love of learning needed for the next stage of their learning journey and future life. We enable every child to achieve their full potential and achieve the highest of standards through a focus on three golden threads that drive our curriculum;

  • Ensuring that every child is a reader
  • Promoting vocabulary across the day, across the curriculum
  • Providing a broad range of enrichment experiences

These key areas have been chosen because research shows that they significantly impact children’s academic potential and wider life chances and that by addressing them we will provide the knowledge and cultural capital our children need to succeed in life.

We plan for all our children experience an ambitious curriculum, following and enhancing the national curriculum, giving them a broad knowledge in their long-term memory. We use a cross curricular project approach to plan and deliver Science, Geography, History, Art and Design and Design Technology as this gives context to new learning and makes it meaningful for our children. Individual subjects are sequenced across and within these projects to ensure that children build knowledge and develop and apply skills. Other subjects are taught in discrete lessons but the knowledge and skills from these are applied across the curriculum.
